In September 2005, Lil Durk was on the verge of being signed to the Def Jam Recordings label in the company’s pre-release meetings (before his album, “Mean,” was out).

The team, who was supposed to release two other artists for a one-shot deal, asked Lil Durk if he would be willing to sign another artist under similar terms. He agreed.
